		U.S. TOP SKI DESTINATION; COLORADO HAS PLENTY TO OFFER The world's most popular skiing destination is now the United States, according to recent data from the Conde Nast Traveler. U.S. ski resorts saw a six percent hike in ski and snowboard visitors during the 2015-16 season for a total of 53.9 million, beating out France and Switzerland, the top ski countries in the world. Since ski season is right around the corner, we thought it would be a good idea to take a look at some of the best ski resorts in Colorado, according to last year's Conde Nast Traveler's 20 Best Ski Resorts in the U.S. and Canada. Here are the Colorado resorts that made the cut: No. 2: Telluride, which ranked No. 1 for scenery, got kudos for its no-nonsense attitude, a healthy mix of ski bums and artists and sublime winter sports. No. 3: Aspen Mountain, which ranked No. 1 for nightlife, was praised for its luxury lodgings, high-end dining and exclusive designer shopping. No. 8: Beaver Creek is the destination for anyone looking to be pampered with escalators that transport you from the slopes to town and free cookies in the afternoon. No. 10: Snowmass, which ranked No. 1 for trails and runs, boasts the longest vertical descent in the country, three terrain parks, two pipes and runs to suit all abilities. No. 11: Vail has varied terrain, an excellent lift system and world-class hotels, restaurants and shops. No. 13: Aspen Highlands is noted as the place for hardcore ski bums and its famed Highland Bowl, which offers steep runs accessed only by hiking. No. 14: Crested Butte is considered the birthplace of freeskiing and suited for the more adventurous skiers willing to tackle its extreme Headwall and North Face runs. No. 17: Steamboat is popular for its authentic Western history and lack of a celebrity scene — perfect for those who prefer cowboy boots over furry moon boots. We can't say we're surprised that so many of our resorts made this distinguished roundup.
