THE ULTIMATE COLORADO WINTER BUCKET LIST

There's nothing quite like a Colorado winter. From skiing on the Rocky Mountain ski slopes and caroling through the Christmas town of Durango to ice climbing in Ouray, you can bet our state offers the best of the best when it comes to winter fun.

To enjoy the most out of the frosty season, we present our annual Winter Activity Guide, a quick reference guide that you can use all season long.

In addition to the handy guide, we put together a winter bucket list that includes some great activities around the state. If you want to get in on the fun, make it your goal to cross off the entire list this winter!
  • Ice Skate on a Frozen Lake – Head out to Evergreen Lake, just 30 miles west of Denver, to enjoy an ice skating rink, picnic areas, an easy hiking loop and 11 pond hockey rinks. The park's warming hut provides snacks, warm beverages and a cozy fireplace that will keep you nice and toasty during this chilly adventure.

  • Ski Down an Aspen SlopeAspen Highlands offers a number of uncrowded slopes for you to practice your skiing skills. You'll experience panoramic views from the valley to the snow-covered Maroon Bells during your skiing escapade.

  • Watch a Fierce Hockey Game – Get ready to pull out your burgundy and blue jerseys for a season of major uproar as the Colorado Avalanches score goals against our rivals – the Detroit Red Wings!

  • Take in the Holiday Lights – The small northeastern town of Holyoke hosts a beautiful parade of lights which features holiday floats, holiday contests, a visit from Mr. & Mrs. Claus, children's crafts and more.

  • Explore a Historic Museum – If you're looking to catch a break from the chilly outdoor temperatures and learn some cool facts about Colorado's history, then visiting the History Colorado Center in downtown Denver is a great choice to start off your museum expedition. Make sure to also swing by the Colorado Railroad Museum to transport back in time to the state's dynamic railroad era.

  • Zip Through Colorado's Largest Ski Mountain – While skiing is our favorite way to get around a mountain, speed things up this winter with a snowmobiling expedition. One way to get your adrenaline rushing as you drive through Colorado's backcountry is with Sage Outdoor Adventures' snowmobile tours. The best part: this adventure takes place at an exclusive private mountain where you can let your carefree spirit roam free.

  • Spend a White Christmas in a Cozy Cabin – Can you think of anything more holiday-postcard appropriate than enjoying mountain living from a cozy, rustic cabin? Valhalla Resort in Estes Park offers a variety of cabins on the border of Rocky Mountain National Park that will put you in the middle of a winter wonderland.

  • Enjoy a Fun and Never Ruff RideSnow Caps Sled Dogs runs a six-mile tour along the winding trails of Swan River Valley where gentle Siberian Huskies will take you through some of the area's most picturesque settings.

  • Experience the Magic of Ballet and Music – The holiday tradition of the Nutcracker at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House is a must this holiday season. The renowned play features lavish costumes, exuberant dancing, whimsical battles, hypnotizing snow flurries, sumptuous sets and majestic live music by the Colorado Ballet Orchestra.

  • Feel the Warmth in One of the World's Deepest Hot Springs – After you've completed your outdoor activities, head over to The Springs Resort & Spa where you can soothe your sore muscles as you take in the gorgeous views of the surrounding mountainous terrain.
