7 GENIUS TRICKS TO STAY COOL WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING

Rather than spending this summer sizzling away in the heat, we thought we’d come up with a few easy (and mostly cheap) ways to cool down your house. Here are seven clever tricks from the experts to help you stay cool inside this summer.

Use your ceiling fans
Remember the ceiling fans cool the person - not the room - so turn them off when not in use.

Swap out your lights
Swap out your old, hot incandescents for energy-efficient bulbs.

Cool the room with ice
A couple of bags of ice and a fan is all you need to hack the heat this summer.

Reduce the heat coming in
Thick dark curtains with white reflective backings are best!

Limit appliance use
Running the dryer, dishwasher, oven, etc., can produce a lot of heat in the home.

Get a Swamp Cooler
Just in case you don't know what a swamp cooler is (because we didn't!):  What in the world is a swamp cooler?

Buy a cooling necktie
It's a real thing! Try a Kool Tie to feel comfortable on a sweltering day.
