CREATE GOOD HABITS THAT STICK

It has been said that mediocrity is a result of continuous mediocre habits. This means that excellence can be achieved through creating excellent habits. However, if creating great habits was easy, we’d all be exercising, drinking enough water, meditating and eating our greens everyday. The reality is that getting good habits to stick can take a lot of time and dedication.

Darius Foroux, writer and creative entrepreneur, created a four-step process that one can implement to teach yourself how to create habits that stick.

DECIDE WHAT HABITS ARE WORTH IT
Deciding if developing a habit is worth your time is critical to making them, well, habits. There are potential practices that float around most of our brains - waking up earlier, better exercise, better diet, etc., - but what’s a habit that could really make a difference in your life? If you’re able to satisfactorily answer that question then you’re on the right path to making it a reality.

FOCUS ON ONE HABIT AT A TIME
Many people try and achieve the most possible in the shortest amount of time, but that can lead to fatigue, burnout, or mistakes. The easy way to avoid this is to focus on one thing at a time. This is no different. Start with one habit, let it take hold, and once it’s no longer something that will take up a lot of energy to complete, start with your next habit. You’ve got this!

START SMALL
A strong foundation is necessary to achieve anything. So start small and keep in maintainable. Have a goal to do a daily run? Start by walking a few days a week. The first step is always the hardest.

USE DETAILED CHECKLISTS
There’s something satisfying about creating a to-so list and then marking off each line item as it’s completed. A list can help keep you on track, remind you of what’s to come, and show you how far you’ve come.

Creating excellent habits won’t guarantee a better life, but creating a better life rarely happens without good habits in place.
