Newport Aquarium is bringing back a unique way to explore the aquarium, learn more about the lesser-known animals who call it home and potentially win a fun grand prize.
The Underwater Scavenger Hunt Around the World begins Saturday, Jan. 10 and runs until March 2. The scavenger hunt will take visitors on an adventure through the aquarium to find hidden globes. The globes act as clues that will help visitors solve a secret phrase.
If you solve the secret phrase, you can enter to win the ultimate prize: a four-pack of Gold Memberships and a $100 Skyline Chili gift card.
As visitors work to solve the secret phrase, they will also learn about some of the aquarium’s inhabitants who may often be overlooked. One of those creatures, the colorful and quirky yellow boxfish, is a newcomer to the aquarium. These little fish have a peculiar cubic shape and ridged edges on their bodies. This helps protect them from being crushed by predators’ jaws.
“There is always something new and exciting to learn about the animals we care for every day,” said Newport Aquarium General Curator Kelly Sowers. “Underwater Scavenger Hunt is a great way to reward our visitors who are taking the time to learn about some amazing animals they might not have seen at the aquarium before!”
The Underwater Scavenger Hunt is free to play with aquarium admission and is open to all ages. You can also play as many times as you want to increase your chances of winning the grand prize.
