A LOOK INTO THE EVOLUTION OF SMART HOME TECHNOLOGY

Pinterest

Smart home technology allows you to control and automate various aspects of your home, such as lighting, temperature, security, and appliances, using a smartphone or other device. This can make your home more convenient, energy-efficient, and secure.

The concept of a "smart home" has evolved over the past 100 years with the invention of technology that allows for easy control of your home.

FROM LUXURY TO MAINSTREAM

In the early 1900s, the first home automation systems were invented. However, these were primarily used in luxury homes and were not widely available to the general public.

One of the first examples of a "smart" home system was the "Electro-mechanical Mansion" developed in the early 1900s by the American inventor and businessman, Alfred M.Butler. This system allowed homeowners to control lighting, heating, and other appliances through a series of switches and relays.

As technology continued to evolve and became more affordable, home automation systems became more widely available, and started to become a common feature in many homes.

In the 1970s and 1980s, the first home automation systems for the mass market were developed, and were primarily controlled through hardwired wall-mounted panels.

In the 1990s, we saw the first smart home systems that could be controlled through a computer or phone, providing more convenience and flexibility for homeowners.

In the 2000s, the advent of wireless technology has led to the development of a wide range of smart home devices, including smart thermostats, security cameras, and smart appliances, that can be easily controlled through a smartphone or other device.

Today, many smart home devices are integrated with other systems, such as Amazon's Alexa or Google Home, and can be controlled through voice commands, making the smart home experience even more convenient and accessible.
