NAR REMODELING IMPACT REPORT HIGHLIGHTS
Some home improvement projects offer the best of both worlds. They bring personal satisfaction and strong financial returns. This year, three types of projects received perfect Joy Scores of 10 out of 10. These included adding a new primary bedroom suite, upgrading the kitchen, and replacing the roof.
When it comes to resale value, the winner was installing a new steel front door. That single upgrade had a cost recovery of one hundred percent, making it the most valuable project from a financial standpoint.
Another interesting takeaway from the report is that remodeling often leads to more remodeling. Once homeowners finish one project, they are excited to move on to the next. Contractors noted a rise in larger projects and more homeowners choosing to renovate multiple rooms at once.
Real estate professionals often recommend a few key updates before listing a property. The top three suggestions were painting the entire home, painting a single room, and replacing the roof.
WHAT BUYERS WANT MOST
Since 2020, buyer preferences have changed. REALTORS reported more demand for kitchen upgrades, new roofing, and bathroom renovations. These are the types of updates that catch a buyer’s eye and help a home stand out in a competitive market.
